What should I know about Fur Rondy?

​Fur Rendezvous, or “Rondy,” is a winter festival with a significant place in Anchorage’s history. Established in the mid-1930s by Vern Johnson and friends to coincide with the town’s mining and trapping season, the festival began as a three-day sports tournament featuring skiing, hockey, and a children’s sled dog race. Can I attend the Iditarod Ceremonial Start?

Yes! The Ceremonial Start is Saturday, March 2; festivities begin at 10AM in Downtown Anchorage at the corner of 4th and D street. Summit attendees are invited to our Icebreaker Reception to warm up and celebrate at well!

The Iditarod is an annual sled dog race covering 1,000+ miles of challenging terrain and named after the Iditarod Trail, a historic dogsled route used during the 1925 vaccine run to Nome. Learn more here!

What is the Icebreaker Reception?

An icebreaker, Alaska style! SBDC Summit attendees are invited to attend the “Icebreaker Reception” which will take place at the Out North Theater (411 D St) on Saturday, March 2nd from 9:30 am – 2 pm, offering a convenient spot to warm up while enjoying the ceremonial start of the Iditarod. Enjoy light refreshments, warm beverages, and a live event stream so you don’t miss the action. Details & registration here.

What can I expect for parking?

EasyPark Alaska: Parking meters must be paid Monday-Friday, 9 am – 6 pm. Rates: 2-hour meter $1.75 per hour; 10-hour meter $1.25 per hour; Handicap – different rates apply. If you want a receipt for a transaction at a street meter, click here.

Parking Garage: 5th and B (420 B Street): Height Restriction: 7’ 0” (8’6” on Level 1 – Entry on 4th Ave). Rate: $2.00 Per Hour. Security Contact (24/7): 907-297-4471
